This is a recent thought bubble from one of vfxjunkies on the RED 4K on color sampling and comparsion.

Last week our team had a presentation on RED workflow from good people at Icerber Design here in Singapore. The key issues we discussed at the end were 4:2:2 color sampling and advantage of 10 bit log space of Red workflow. While advantage of 10 bit log space is almost similar to a film workflow but the compromise we would make would be on the quality of the image. READ MORE

VFX ON OCEAN DRAINS..

Draining the Ocean was a huge project that Eduardo Schaal did at 422 for National Geographic to show the incredible landscape of the ocean floor. All drained underwater landscapes were created in Computer Graphics (CG). Link to the art director of this project

Terragen website has a PDF presentation for the technical aspects of the Draining the Ocean case.

Here, there is a link for the clip with a selection of shots.rain the Ocean is directed by Steve Nicholls and produced by UK based Burning Gold Productions . The work will be shown on National Geographic Channel and ORF at dates in 2009 to be confirmed.
